WHAT IS HBOT?

Oxygen as Therapy

Oxygen as Medicine

HEALING THOSE IN NEED

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a prescribed treatment approved by the FDA and AMA in which a person
breathes 100% medical grade oxygen within increased atmospheric pressure.

“Hyper” means “increased” and “baric” refers to air pressure. Providing oxygen in a pressurized environment allows 10-15 times more oxygen to be delivered than at sea level (baseline atmospheric pressure). Because HBOT dissolves more oxygen gas molecules into smaller volumes throughout all of the body’s fluids (e.g., blood, plasma, lymphatic fluid, and the fluid enveloping the brain and spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid), it floods (perfuses) areas where circulation is poor due to injury or inflammation, “cleaning out” metabolic wastes and repairing damaged tissue at faster rates.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF HBOT?

  • HBOT reduces inflammation, interrupting the vicious cycle of swelling, cellular oxygen deprivation (hypoxia), and pain, which then leads to more swelling, and so on.
  • Inflammation also speeds healing of injured tissues, reduction of bruising, whether from traumatic injury or surgery.
  • Strengthens the immune system response by kicking white blood cells into high gear and minimizing bacterial and fungal growth.
  • Stimulates new growth of blood vessels (angiogenesis) and neurons (neurogenesis).
  • Increased mitochondrial function. Improving the efficacy of the cell’s powerhouse improves cellular functioning system-wide.
  • Promotes cell growth through stimulation of stem cells (which can become any needed cell) and the release of substances called “growth factors.”
  • Promotes the formation of new collagen fibers and connective tissue.

1.

PRESCRIBED TREATMENT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy “HBOT” is a prescribed treatment approved by the FDA and AMA in which a person breathes 100% medical grade oxygen while under increased atmospheric pressure. “Hyper” means “increased” and “baric” refers  to air pressure.

2.

NON-INVASIVE

HBOT is a safe, non-invasive method of supplying oxygen to a patient in order to correct or improve certain conditions. The oxygen is what does the work.

3.

OXYGEN

Providing oxygen in a pressurized chamber allows the delivery of 10-15 times more oxygen than if it was delivered at sea level. Oxygen is one of the body’s basic needs. All of the body’s tissues and physiological processes rely on sufficient oxygenation.

4.

EFFECTIVE

The FDA and AMA have approved HBOT as effective treatment for many condition including decompression sickness, severe carbon monoxide poisoning, certain severe wounds or injuries, skin infections, delayed radiation injury, and certain bone or brain infections.
